Living at La Trobe is more than just a place to live. It’s an opportunity to experience uni life in a totally unique and awesome way, and we can’t wait to have you living here in 2018! There are so many great things about living on-campus at La Trobe, whether it be the short walk to class, the inclusive and supportive community you will be part of, or all the events and activities, you’ve got a lot to be excited about.

So you’ve got all of this and more to look forward to, but before all that happens you’ll need to think about moving-in and having all the right stuff to make your new home the best it can be. Regardless of what you choose to bring, we are here to help if you have any questions or need help settling in to your new home.

Frequently Asked Questions about checking-in

What must I do prior to check-in day?

To avoid any delays in your check-in please ensure you complete the following compulsory courses and compulsory payments prior to check-in.

Please note: If you have not completed the courses by your check in day, you may be asked to complete the modules prior to receiving your key. The courses take approx. 30 minutes each. There is no need to send us your certificate, we are able to generate a completion report to confirm completion.

  • You need to have paid your annual compulsory Fee
  • You have provided a suitable photo for an ID card during your application (You would have already received an email from us if the photo was not suitable.

Where do I check in?  

You will need to park at the car park closest to the check in point – (check in point may change depending on the weather)

 Step 1: Park in your assigned car park as per above table.

Step 2: Follow signage and guidance from student leaders to your check in point. Your car will need to remain in the carpark until you have your room key and are ready to bring your belongings inside.

Step 3: Return to your car and follow the map to an allocated point to drop off your belongings (We recommend bringing a friend or family member to assist with taking your belongings to your room). We only have limited trolleys, therefore; if you have your own, this may make your move-in a little quicker. Porter service is charged at a minimum of $40 for 30 minutes. If you require a porter you will need to email living@latrobe.edu.au atleast 48 hours prior to your arrival so that we can organise a designated time to assist you.

Step 4: Once you have removed your belongings from your car you will need to return the car to the car park and start moving your things inside. As mentioned before, we recommend bringing a friend or family member to assist with taking your belongings to your room.

Step 5: If moving in between 9am – 11am: Head over to the Accommodation Services Office in the Menzies building to enjoy a BBQ breakfast!

 

What if I prefer to check in after 10th February 2018?                                                                                          

If you prefer to check in after the 10th February, it would be appreciated if you could email living@latrobe.edu.au to let the Accommodation Services Team know what date you will be checking in. When you arrive, you will simply need to visit the Accommodation Services office (no matter the time) and the friendly staff will check you in. If the office is closed when you arrive, please call the night manager on 0418 541 953 and they will check you in. If you have already advised us that you’re not checking in on the 10th of February, you do not need to contact us again.                          

Please Note: If you choose to check in at a later date, charges still apply from the 10th February 2018.                                                                                                                              

How do I know what room I am allocated?

You will be notified of your room when you check in.  

 

I am under 18 Years of age, am I required to follow any additional instructions?

Yes, Residents under the Age of 18 will be identified during check-in. All minors and their guardians are required to sign a form agreeing to refrain from consuming alcohol and must attend the Meet the Staff info session in Union Hall at 4pm.

 

Are there any information sessions that I need to attend on move-in day?

If you’re Parent/s or Guardian/s would like to accompany you to your college on move in day and would like to know further information about life on campus, we will be holding two Parent Information Sessions on move – in day. The sessions are identical and will be held at 11am & 2pm on 10th February.

 

There is also a compulsory session for residents that will be held at 4pm on move – in day. Venue to be confirmed.

Do I need to bring my own linen?                                                                                                                          A mattress and mattress protector will be provided, however; you will need to bring (your own need to bring or purchase from us all other bedding items. How do I pay my rent?

Rent will be due by the 16th February by 5pm.  You can either pay your rent in person at the Accommodation Services office using EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard (we don’t accept cash), via bank transfer or via the StarRez portal. A monthly rent schedule is attached to show you when and how to pay.

Melbourne Campus (Bundoora)

Firstly, residents can check-in from February 10.

NOTE – you CAN check-in after February 10. This date is the official beginning of your rental contract period.

We ask that you try to arrive between 9am – 3pm as we will have more staff available to help with any questions and queries, along with any administrative requirements.

Are you wondering whether it’s worth checking-in early on Feb 10? We’ll be putting on a FREE BBQ between 9-11am for all our new residents and visitors!

NOTE: You can check-in at any time, and if doing so outside of these times (9am – 3pm) you will need to check-in at the Accommodation Services Office, located at Menzies College.

Two types of check-in are available

Express check-in: This is recommended for all students as it is quick and easy, allowing for a smooth check-in process. Here are the requirements for express check-in:

  • You have paid your annual compulsory fee
  • You have provided a suitable photo for an ID card during your application (you would have already received an email from us if the photo you have provided is not suitable)
  • Completed your online induction module:

Express check-in can be completed at the Marquees set up at Glenn College (car park 6), Menzies College (car park 6) and Chisholm College (car park 3). There will also be a marquee at Barnes Way and Waterdale Road. Please go to the college you are due to move-in to.

Melbourne Campus Map

Non-express check-in: Please proceed to the Accommodation Services Office at Menzies College if you:

  • Are checking into Graduate House or University Lodge
  • Have not paid your annual compulsory fees
  • Have not provided a suitable ID photo on your application
  • Have not completed your online induction modules
  • Have any questions that cannot be answered at the express check-in points

Instructions for arrival

  • Residents must ‘check-in’ at individual college locations (Chisholm, Glenn, Menzies, Barnes Way/Waterdale Road) on check-in day.   Residents arriving for Graduate House and University Lodge will need to proceed to our main office to be checked-in here.
  • Please park in car park 3 (Chisholm College residents) or car park 6 (Menzies and Glenn), and obtain your key at check in desks BEFORE moving your belongings into your room.
  • Barnes Way and Waterdale Road:  Please go to the car park at Waterdale Road (corner of Kingsbury Drive) and make your way to the playground (visible from the carpark) to collect your keys BEFORE moving your belongings into your room.
  • Once you have your key, you will be shown to your room location and then you will have the opportunity to move and unpack your car closer to your room.

Students under 18 years of age

Students under the age of 18 will be identified during check-in. All minors and their guardians are required to sign a form agreeing to refrain from consuming alcohol and must attend the Meet the staff info session in Union Hall at 4pm.

 

Parking and unpacking

Staff and student leaders will be available to help you to find your way to the appropriate car park.

Student leaders will be on hand to help you to take your belongings to your new home.

Unpack your things with caution, please be mindful of the safety and property of others.

If the office is closed when you arrive, please call our Night Manager on 0418-541-953 (We provide 24-hour check in so please do not worry if you are running late and will not make it before the end of check-in day).

Still wondering what to pack? Here are a few things to remember…

  • Clothes – this may seem obvious but remember that you will need to pack for all types of weather, activities and conditions. We have all types of events and activities for you to take part in throughout the year…so bathers will help if you’re wanting to Swimming with Dolphins, and snow pants will be great for snowboarding at Mt Hotham…and you might even want to wear something special if you decide to go on our Commonwealth Games trip!
  • Toiletries – It’s always good to start with everything you need. Once you’ve settled into your new home, feel free to visit the local shopping centre to re-stock your supplies.
  • Linen – Single Bed sheets, pillows and doonas, as well as a towel – Purchase through our store
  • Laptops/computers – We have computer rooms for you to use, but if you have your own laptop, it’s always good to have – and don’t forget your charger!
  • Kitchen equipment – We recommend bringing your own pots/pans/plates/cutlery/bowls etc as we don’t supply these in our kitchens.
  • Mini Bar Fridge – This is optional and we are more than happy to help you move it into your room.

Bendigo Campus

Check-in day is February 10, from 9am – 3pm.

NOTE – you CAN check-in after February 10. This date is the official beginning of your rental contract period.

When you arrive at La Trobe University please proceed to Sharon St, Gate 9 and staff will be there to assist. Once you are checked-in, you will have a student leader direct you to your new room and home.

Out of hours check-in:  Contact Security on 0429 410 781 for access to your room and key collection for East End Residence. (MHR will already have swipe card for access)
